BMC/BMMS Mountain Medicine weekend 2019.
Now in its fourth year, the BMC/BMMS Mountain Medicine weekend offers climbers, hill walkers, mountaineers and skiers the chance to receive first aid training from mountain medicine experts.
Spend Saturday and/or Sunday (8-9 June) learning new skills through our programme of workshops, and join us for a BBQ and talk from BMC Patron and Himalayan legend Mick Fowler on Saturday evening.
READ THE REPORT FROM THE 2018 EVENT
This is the second year that this weekend will be run by the British Mountain Medicine Society (BMMS) who greatly appreciate the financial, booking and administrative support of the BMC. The BMMS is made up of doctors, paramedics and nurses who are active in the outdoor and expedition field. Many are holders of the UK UIAA/ICAR.ISMM Diploma of Mountain Medicine and it includes active rock climbers, hill walkers, winter climbers, alpinists, skiers, mountain bikers, mountain rescue team members, travel medicine experts, researchers and many with expedition experience up to 8000m.
Membership is open to medics and laypersons interested in mountain medicine and details of how to apply for membership will be available at the event.
Workshops - new format
Led by our team of top instructors (with backgrounds ranging from mountain rescue to expedition work), the workshops require no prior medical knowledge and are open to anyone with an interest in the outdoors.
In a change from previous years, all attendees will follow a set programme throughout the weekend, with a free choice of workshops on the Saturday afternoon in order to tailor the weekend to your interests / requirements.
We are also introducing for the first year Ask the Doctor slots (20 minutes), one to one consultations on anything mountain medicine related, which you can choose in place of one workshop.
