Isla Wormald

Dr Isla Madeleine Wormald.  BSc MBChB (Leeds) DiMM (UIAA / IKAR / ISMM) MRCEM.  Isla is a Yorkshire lass living in Sheffield, UK where she is an Emergency Medicine SpR & Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine SpR for the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance. She has reportedly been summiting peaks since she was in utero, although not without protest in her early teenage years…

Subsequently, a passion for outdoor pursuits evolved! Whilst at university, Isla developed a keen interest in wilderness medicine. She spent her 10-week medical elective working under the supervision of Dr Emmanuel Cauchy at the Institute of Training & Research in Mountain Medicine at Chamonix Hospital, France. Isla has previously been doctor for the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association, GB Junior Lead Climbing & Bouldering Teams & for expeditions to Sabine Land, Svalbard; Mera Peak, Nepal; Loppa Peninsula, Norway; Kilimanjaro, Tanzania; Manaslu, Nepal; Everest Base Camp, Nepal & Beijing, Hebei & Tianjin Provinces, China.

She has just returned from her fourth season working for Antarctic Logistics & Expeditions. The daughter of two teacher parents, an enthusiasm for education runs in her blood - in addition to being a faculty member of Faraway Medicine, Outdoor Medicine, UIAA/ ICAR/ ISMM/ UCLan MSc/ PGDip Mountain Medicine & World Extreme Medicine, Isla is an AWLS instructor & helped deliver the first UIAA / ICAR / ISMM Nepal DiMM. When not wearing scrubs or a flight suit, Isla has a passion for travel, sleeping under canvas & human-powered adventures. She is a holder of the MTA Summer Mountain Leader & PADI Open Water Diver awards.

She is an aspirant member of the Alpine Club, Winter Mountain Leader & BAIML International Mountain Leader.
